Semiotics - University project.

Friday 26 June 2015

For these images I curated, designed and photographed two photoshoots in two different locations for a project at Brighton university. The project was focusing on the subject title 'metropolis' mixing city fashion/style with current everyday issues within the metropolis but keeping the images aesthetic and fashion photography-esque.
I really enjoyed the concept of this shoot and made a short film clip to accompany it which you can see here on my tumblr blog www.izzymelhuish.tumblr.com/.

For these two photographs I wanted to portray a few ideas with pollution and UVB/UVA rays in mind but I wanted the viewer to not be aware of what the real issue is. I thought that if they thought about it them selves then it would affect them as an issue that they could identify with more personally.

Good Vibrations Festival

Thursday 14 May 2015

Last weekend I go the chance to attend Good Vibrations festival in Bournemouth and do this mural for them. The festival was run by Bournemouth university students at Holton Lee
It was an amazing experience to travel to Bournemouth and draw for the event and I can honestly say I have never met so many friendly and happy people in one place!

Journal mag

Monday 23 March 2015

I recently did a drawing for a student magazine called 'Journal' in London. Today I was sent these images and told it has been out in for final print. The design looks great on the cover as you can see below. Really happy with how the drawing turned out and the layout works really well.

Hackett revisit

Saturday 7 March 2015

I was in london on Tuesday so thought it would be interesting to go back to Hackett after 2/3 years after doing the work and see if my name was still there. Took some photos as the store has been moved around. It was really nice to see that they still have my work all over the first floor still after all of this time.

Heartbreak doll

I made this doll based on the brief 'Issues'. I decided to look at the issue of heartbreak and made a product designed to be aesthetically pleasing but also be a solution to the issue.
The doll works a bit like a worry doll (muñecas quitapenas) they are very small and colorful dollsWhen you cannot sleep due to worrying you express your worries to a doll and place it under their pillow before going to sleep. I took this idea and looked at Kintsugi, the japanese art of fixing things with gold glue. Fixing the broken object with gold glue treats the breakage as something to show its history and make it more beautiful instead of to hide it.
I have made my doll with delicate clay and mixed a golden glue to go with the product. The idea is whenever you feel broken you break a bit of the doll and glue it back together, showing that the breakage only makes you more beautiful and more interesting than before.
